Hello, David Tennant here. I'm going to roll the dice of my career... and find out what it's got to tell me.

What ya... That is Kilgrave from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's... Netflix phase. He was the bad guy opposite Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter played Jessica Jones. The Purple Man he's known in the comics.

He was slightly, well, less purple... than he would be in a comic book, but I did tend to wear purple suits. He had a virus... which meant he could control the minds of everyone around him. Apart from the mind of Jessica Jones.

It's very hard to say you like playing a reprehensible character because that then gets taken to mean that you in some way approve of the notion of the things that they did and Kilgrave is a particularly damaged human.

Obviously as an actor you're interested in the bits of humanity that go wrong and corners of psychology that are to be unearthed and understood. Things that hopefully aren't necessarily part of your own world view but you can try and extend your imaginative reach into that.

It was a great series. A lot darker than a lot of the Marvel stuff that we see now. It was where the Daredevil and Luke Cage and Iron Fist, that sort of era. Netflix were given these properties and took a sort of more adult take on some of those superheroes.

Oh well that's me... in Staged. Staged is something we made during lockdown... from our own houses. I was in it, my wife Georgia was in it... and then Michael Sheen and Anna Lundberg, from their house in Wales, were also in it.

The idea that two actors who'd been rehearsing a play suddenly found themselves in lockdown and what happens next? First of all we just made one on spec to see if we could. We just did it in our own house.

One of the really exciting things about it is everyone was locked in their house, we quickly discovered. So when we approached Samuel L. Jackson, Judi Dench, Ewan McGregor, Jim Parsons... everyone we approached went, 'Yeah, I'm not doing anything else.'

Look at that young person. This was a show called Takin' Over the Asylum. Which one of us... back in 1994? Is that right? I mean that's more than 30 years ago. As you can probably tell from that picture.

It was the first big TV job I'd had really. Certainly the first thing where I was in a whole series. Ken Stott was the lead... Brilliant people. And a brilliant script by Donna Franceschild about a hospital radio station in a psychiatric hospital in Glasgow.

Ah, this is Crowley. Crowley is a demon in the world of Good Omens. He is Hell's representative on Earth. And really it's the story of him and his opposite number, Aziraphale, an angel played by Michael Sheen, who is Heaven's representative on Earth.

Michael Sheen was definitely cast first. He's never let me forget it. And I think initially in fact, the thinking was that Michael might play Crowley. And then things sort of shifted and he became Aziraphale.

This is the Tenth Doctor from a television program called Doctor Who. One of two Doctors that I have played, I was number 10 and number 14. But this I can tell from the fresh-facedness of it is the Tenth Doctor.

I came in in 2005 and did a little stint until about 2010. And then for the 60th anniversary I came back and did another little stint, which is when I became the 14th Doctor.

I mean either you know what this show is all about or you're absolutely lost and mystified by this. But if you don't know what Doctor Who is about, you should go and check it out. It's an evolving and wonderful and very alive world.

Hey! D.I. Alec Hardy from Broadchurch. Who was a grumpy detective who ended up in a Dorset village called Broadchurch twinned with a slightly less grumpy detective whose job he got, played by Olivia Colman.

But it was a fantastic show to work on. It had an amazing ensemble cast... Olivia, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Jonathan Bailey, Vicky McClure, Pauline Quirke... an amazing cast. Brilliant scripts by Chris Chibnall.

I don't know that I've ever really had a methodology or a particular understanding of what it is one does with a character. I don't have a set of rules that I have ever particularly followed or a criteria that I sort of work through.

Which of these characters would get on? I don't think Kilgrave would get on with anyone. And Alec Hardy is pretty grumpy. The Doctor would probably get on with most people. And that's me... I mean the staged me was obviously hopefully not too much like the real me.

What have I not played yet? A vet. I've not yet played a vet. I think I have played a dentist. Yes, I look forward to playing the vet detective, coming soon to ITV1.
